“Mildness by Design:

Developing Modern Cleansing Systems for the Next Generation of Consumers”

Consumer expectations for cleansing products are evolving, driven by growing interest in sensitive skin and scalp care, ingredient transparency, natural-origin formulations, skinification, sensory experiences, and more sustainable product formats. These trends are challenging formulators to rethink how mildness, cleansing, foam, viscosity, sensory properties, and formulation efficiency can be balanced within a single system.

This presentation explores how surfactants can be selected and combined to respond to these emerging needs. Through formulation examples, different surfactant approaches will be discussed in relation to mildness, foam quality, viscosity, cleansing performance, and sensory perception. Combinations of anionic, amphoteric, and nonionic surfactants will be explored, alongside multifunctional ingredients and emerging concentrated or solid cleansing formats.

The presentation will connect evolving consumer expectations with formulation choices, highlighting how surfactant selection and ingredient combinations can support the development of modern cleansing systems that respond to changing consumer needs.
