“Transforming Formulation Sensory with Plant-Based Polymeric Emollients”

You are invited to attend our September meeting of 2025 with Jeff Parker.   Jeff Parker is a seasoned sales leader with a deep understanding of the personal care market and formulation. At P2 he is responsible for leading sales initiatives and cultivating strategic partnerships to accelerate revenue growth across key markets. Jeff brings a unique perspective to his role, having worked in contract manufacturing, finished goods, raw material manufacturing, and chemical distribution in various commercial and technical roles. His most recent experience was at IMCD in principal management, and he previously led the North American sales team at BASF Personal Care.

Abstract:

P2 Science has developed a novel polymerization methodology for the synthesis of polymeric materials from renewable terpene feedstocks. The process utilizes structured reactors and catalysis under ambient conditions in the absence of organic solvents or aqueous media, achieving atom economy by recycling distilled monomer back into the process as a feedstock. The resulting polymeric structures, designated as Polycitronellol, exhibit distinct molecular architectures characterized by controlled molecular weight distribution and specific functional group positioning that impart unique tactile and performance properties. Sensory evaluation demonstrates differentiated performance characteristics compared to conventional petroleum-derived emollients or silicones, including enhanced spreadability, reduced tackiness, and improved after-feel across multiple applications and formulation types. The polymers demonstrate biodegradability under OECD 301 protocols and maintain structural integrity across typical cosmetic pH ranges (4.5-8.0). This presentation will detail the synthetic methodology, molecular structure and physical properties, comparative sensory analysis, and formulation recommendations demonstrating the technical viability of these sustainable polymeric emollients in personal care applications.
